If you’re using a Canon ImageCLASS printer, such as the LBP121, LBP122, or MF270 series, the CRG-071 or CRG-071H refers to the toner cartridge. These cartridges are designed for specific Canon models and are available as both standard and high-yield versions.

For example, the TOPRINT CRG-071 compatible toner cartridge is suitable for Canon ImageCLASS LBP121, LBP122, LBP122dw, and the MF270 series. It offers a standard capacity of approximately 1,200 pages.

• Compatibility: As above, the drum fits printers using 158A/158X toners (Tank series). E.g., printed references of “Drum Unit 158A/158X for W1109A (1005w / 1580A)” show the intended models.

• Page yield & life: While I couldn’t find a precise HP-spec yield for the OPC drum alone in public HP literature, compatible-vendor listings indicate they are meant for many thousands of pages. For example “158A Drum Unit Compatible With HP MFP…1005w 2506dw 1020W” says “high page yield”. 

• Role: The OPC drum is responsible for the quality of prints: crisp text, solid blacks, minimal artifacts. When the drum is aged or damaged, you’ll see print defects (faded areas, streaks, ghosting).

• Replacement: The drum is separate from the toner reload kit (for the Tank series). So after you have printed a large volume and print quality drops, replacing the drum is the correct maintenance step (rather than only replacing toner).

• Uniform conductive coating: The roller surface is typically made from conductive rubber (or conductive elastomer) over a metal or conductive core. Proper conductivity is essential.

• Smooth surface finish / correct contact pressure: It must make good contact with the drum to apply the charge evenly. A damaged or rough surface will lead to uneven charging (light/dark bands).

• Precise dimension and mounting ends: The roller must fit exactly in the cartridge’s mounting slots, and the ends must rotate smoothly without wobble.

• Durable insulation and material: As the roller handles high voltage (especially for primary charging) and may be exposed to toner, debris, and heat, the materials must resist wear, corrosion, and breakdown.

• Clean surface / no contamination: Toner dust, oil, or debris on the roller surface will interfere with uniform charging. One support document explains that “sticky residue and dirt” on a charge roller cause thin dark stripes.

• Correct compatibility: Ensure the roller is listed for the correct cartridge / printer family (28A/26A/77A/287A etc). While I did find listings for “PCR for HP 28A/228A/287A” (the product above) the exact part number for the cartridge may vary — always verify fit.
